Text 23 Apr 1 note What it feels like.

I have said a bunch of times in my life that I listen to music like I read a poem, just waiting to feel. And just like with a poem I give the riffs, the beats, the lyrics a sense of their own that is sometimes only applicable to me. An opera aperta like that can have a thousand of interpretations bases on a thousand people’s individual experiences. None of them right or wrong. So maybe the better title is ‘What it feels like for me.’

So different (but you can tell it’s still the same band cause THAT crescendo in Henry Make Good..) And it’s sweeter. It leaves you feeling a rough niceness.

But if Henry sets the tone then it’s pensive. Distanced, almost affected by objectivity (like when you’re analysing your own actions at night, testing all theories of why you took the actions you did or why you said the things you said) but maybe a bit aggressive to be fully objective since there’s a harshness to the words. (though the term the death of disaffect is such a beautiful and inspiring association of words)

Out of the three, Dialtones feels like the simplest, most straightforward and less layered - like a short moment of clarity. Overall good song, easier to categorise within a genre too, but less evocative when compared to Further…

Further Still has incredible lyrics but feels a bit sad. In fact, the whole album just feels like the end of a summer in the 90s when you’re realising you’re growing up. Actively doing the realising. There’s angst and there’s making a foundation of thoughts to the house that’ll be roofed up with conclusions that will change your life forever.

The whole thing feels less ‘impulsive-emotional’ than the first tape. The talking over music from Ten and Two that gave it such a sincere, raw vibe (that still makes me listen to it at least a couple of times a month) feels like it’s now refined. You still get a trace of it in the end of Further Still, but because it’s less of the nostalgic/slow sound that felt at home on the first release the style overall seems much more grown-up and evolved.

So, I don’t know, I still love it. It’s unique and great and the first time I heard Further Still it did that thing where it made me a little sad cause it’s good and for all three I stood there unable to react because I couldn’t spare any energy from being focused on just listening.. basically that’s how it felt like.

In Irish folklore, mermaids (called “merrows”) collect the souls of those drowned at sea. I’m not sure if that’s a child-appropriate story, but this cutesy picture was lots of fun to draw!

such a pretty illustration.

Text 20 Apr

well, I’ve started writing again so I guess that’s good. another idea, other plans, sketches and timelines to keep me occupied. I have faith in this one (like I have in all of them).

but I’ve also started missing people again which isn’t great. I’ll get to see some of my friends in about two months. and yet there are others that I don’t know when I’ll see next. I don’t feel lonely. I don’t think I ever had, but I’d just like to see some old friends’ faces..

just come visit me, everyone. when the weather’s nice we’ll have cider in the garden, where the spider is, and we’ll relive old times.
